Campaigns: BUSINESS & FINANCE
As the world demands new ways of doing business that don’t create inequality or damage the earth, and the corporate and finance sectors seek to reorient themselves around more ethical values, partnership with social enterprise offers some attractive opportunities – and a business model that’s ripe for investment
Social enterprise is sometimes thought of as straddling the private and charity sectors. While this is a convenient description, it belies the real value of what this business form offers.
Social enterprises blend entrepreneurship, business acumen, strong values and a mission for social justice. As with all businesses, they compete to deliver goods and services. The difference is that social purpose is at the very heart of what they do, and the profits they make are reinvested towards achieving that purpose.
As the need for new and better ways of doing business becomes ever more apparent, the potential for relationships between social enterprises and more traditional businesses has arguably never been stronger.
